not too long ago i came across a post on the college prepster written by guest maxie mccoy on how to write a personal mission statement. as is everything on the college prepster blog, this post was super inspiring and got me formulating my very own mission statement! this process first requires a little self reflection. what is unique about you...what dominates your day to day life...what is your biggest priority...you get the picture. the actual writing-the-mission-statement part is a little tricky. what direction do you want your life to have and how will this influence others around you for good? after a little tweaking, i came up with my own: my life mission: to feed my ambition and love for learning inspiring others to do the same as i strive to become the best possible version of myself. |
after that much self-reflection {phew, aren't you exhausted?} i opened myself up to some strong qualities i possess... aaand some weaker ones. this mission of mine can't be an open ended statement--it requires hard work, passion, and faith. and i asked myself, why do i have a hard time sticking with goals that i make with my own improvement in mind? why do we ALL do this? here are a few culprits that everyone suffers from:
loss of motivation
boredom
"i shouldn't have to worry about this" {shouldn't you?}
no one else cares
i'd rather be doing something else
it's too hard
lose sight of desired end product
it tastes good {you heard me}
you current environment
i'll start tomorrow
we have all been there. me? a hundred billion times! i am the WORST at sticking with goals, and at one time or another, i have thought these exact thoughts or experienced these exact predicaments. how do we get out of the slump? is there hope? after writing my last post on my promise to feed my body what it deserves i decided to write about some things i thought up that will help me, and you, get out of the slump of not eating right. because i'll be honest, being healthy is always my number one goal and always the first goal that i break. so how do we solve this problem? here are a few suggestions:
find something you like to do more than eating
find a reward system that doesn't involve food
find a stress reliever...that isn't food {i'm noticing a trend, are you?}
have a partner that will eat healthy with you
always keep desired goal in mind {notes, lock screen, screensaver, etc.}
don't get down on yourself when you mess up
change your situation--take control!
remember that food isn't your life
now you and i both know this positive thinking crap doesn't always work. well, call me angel, because i've made a list of my very own escape plans:
chew gum or eat a mint
drink a sugar free dirty diet coke {you don't have to tell me twice}
play a game
read your favorite blog
watch a movie
carry around a home-made smoothie to sip on {green smoothies are soooo filling}
drink cold water--you're probably dehydrated
go on pinterest for diet/exercise motivation {careful with the food pics}
call your mom or sister or friend
give yourself a mani/pedi
review mission statement!
learn a new yoga sequence
walk your pups
meditate--refocus
find a face mask on pinterest and give one to yourself and a friend
drink sugar-free apple cider or hot chocolate on cold days
i know these strategies have helped me on numerous occasions and they can help you too to stick to your health goals. january is almost over and i'm sure we have all fell short on a couple of resolutions. now is the time to get back on track! seize the day, sister!
